Self-Represented Legal Clinics

Self-Represented Legal Clinics help low-income individuals represent themselves in family law cases. Volunteer attorneys will write court documents, provide legal advice and help you prepare for mediation, court conferences and evaluations, and court hearings. Volunteer attorneys do not make court appearances or provide ongoing representation.

Clinics include:

  • Divorce, including temporary relief
  • Initial case management conference (ICMC)
  • Early neutral evaluation (ENE)
  • Family law mediation
  • Paternity
  • Child support
  • Child custody and parenting time
  • Spousal maintenance
  • Changing family court orders
  • Enforcing family court orders


Location & Schedule
Initial appointment is scheduled in Minneapolis; any needed follow-up services may be provided at the volunteer attorney's office.

Registration & Cost
You must meet financial eligibility guidelines and case priorities. To request services, please call 612.871.0118 and select option 2. Cost is $20; $15 if you prepay. Free for those who meet low-income guidelines.
