Volunteering with Tubman is a unique and rewarding experience. There are many opportunities within our various service areas, and most positions can work as internships for school, depending on requirements. See below for current opportunities!

    Child Specialist Interns support children from infants through age 10, who are living at Tubman’s shelter in Maplewood for families that have experienced domestic violence. Provide individualized, trauma-informed care and advocacy through relationship building, on-site activities, field trips, and respite childcare.
    This position works directly on-site at our Maplewood shelter and adheres to Tubman's COVID-19 safety protocols.

  • Maplewood
    The Civil Legal Advocate Intern or Volunteer is responsible for attending Order for Protection hearings in Washington County, assisting with the writing and filing of Orders for Protection at Tubman, and completing necessary tasks for trial preparation. Must have personal transportation.

  • Maplewood
    The Criminal Legal Advocate is responsible for attending court in Stillwater or St. Paul and relays information about criminal domestic assault cases to the clients involved. Must have personal transportation.

  • Maplewood
    Personal Shoppers sort and organize donations and work one-on-one with individuals who come into the Closet as they shop for and select casual and business-professional attire. This position works on-site and in-person following Tubman's COVID-19 protocols.

  • Remote Opportunity
    Donation drives take time and lots of energy for our Development Team, and they are one of the biggest ways we're able to provide the most needed and desired items for our clients. Assist our Community Relations Manager with the many donation drives coming up this year and learn more about development.

  • Maplewood Mall
    The NorthStar Youth Outreach Center at Maplewood Mall connects youth and young adults ages 13-24 of all genders, and their children, to a safe place to access basic needs, receive advocacy and resource referrals. Volunteers and interns at the Outreach Center also engage the community about Tubman and Outreach Center services.

  • Tubman Chrysalis
    The Paralegal Intern assists Tubman’s legal department with projects such as drafting client correspondence and court documents, screening prospective legal clients, and administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and research.

    Minneapolis and Maplewood - Remote option available
    Resource Counseling Advocates are responsible for providing crisis intervention, supportive counseling, general information, and referral services to individuals who call or come into Tubman. Resource Counseling Advocates in Maplewood will work on-site; Resource Counseling Advocates in Minneapolis will work remotely with the possibility of returning on-site. Laptop or desktop computer required for remote position, all applicants must be comfortable working on-site.

  • Maplewood
    Assist weekend shelter staff with portioning and delivering meals to residents at our Maplewood shelter. Perfect for people working full-time during the week!

  • Maplewood
    Pieces of Peace is a weekly support group for people who are experiencing or have experienced relationship abuse, including emotional, verbal, physical, sexual, or financial abuse. Co-facilitate weekly, virtually and/or in-person at Tubman East in Maplewood. This position works remotely and/or on-site and in-person following Tubman's COVID-19 protocols.

  • Maplewood
    Volunteer will be responsible for transporting residents safely and promptly from Tubman East in Maplewood to appointments and errands, or to Tubman Chrysalis Center in Minneapolis. Must be at least 21 years old.
