My friend is experiencing violence in a relationship. How can I help?
First, we want you to remember to stay safe while helping your friend; your safety is a priority. While you want to be there to help your friend, it’s also important to keep in mind that you can’t make your friend’s decisions for them. They have to decide what is best for their life. You can offer support by letting them know you care about them, that the violence is not their fault, that you’re willing to talk if they’d like to, and then be there to listen to them. You can help your friend get connected to community resources, like Tubman (our phone line is answered 24-hours a day at 612.825.0000) or other organizations that can offer support.
