Special benefit for LGBTQ+ youth to be March 3 at Gay 90s

Contributions to Tubman will provide safe spaces for at-risk LGBTQ+ youth

MINNEAPOLIS—Enjoy fantastic entertainment and show your support for LGBTQ+ youth at a special drag show fundraiser on Thursday, March 3, 2022.

Hosted at the Gay 90s nightclub, this fundraiser for Tubman will support their services for LGBTQ+ youth. The event will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the club at 408 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis.

“We know that 75 percent of people experiencing relationship violence are younger than 24,” said Tubman CEO Jennifer J. Polzin. “And LGBTQ+ youth, along with other minority populations, are disproportionately impacted by violence. This special event is an opportunity to not only provide direct support for queer youth in need of help, but also to show your commitment to these youth and let them know that the community cares about them.”

LGBQT+ youth are disproportionately impacted by trafficking, homelessness, and other forms of violence. And according to the Minnesota Office of the Attorney General, homeless children and youth are quickly targeted by traffickers. One third of homeless youth consider suicide, and half report being physically or sexually abused.

By offering safe spaces and a holistic approach to healing, Tubman helps youth develop plans for increasing their safety and helps them set their own goals for the future. You can be a part of this work by supporting these services and making a difference for LGBTQ+ youth.

Tubman (named after Harriet Tubman of the Underground Railroad) is a multi-service nonprofit organization that serves people of all ages and genders who have experienced violence and trauma. In particular, services for youth and young adult victims of violence include safety planning, safe housing and supportive services, advocacy, case management, a drop-in youth center, and more. More details about Tubman’s full continuum of services can be found at www.tubman.org

“Through these life-changing services, LGBTQ+ youth are able to find support and continue on a journey toward safety, hope, and healing for their futures,” said Polzin. “Please join us on March 3. You’ll have a fabulous time, while simultaneously supporting the need for safe spaces for queer youth in our community.”
