Volunteering with Tubman is a unique and rewarding experience. There are many opportunities within our various service areas, and most positions can work as internships for school, depending on requirements.

Maplewood

The Criminal Legal Advocate is responsible for attending in-custody arraignments in either the Stillwater or suburban Ramsey County areas, and relays information about criminal domestic assault cases to the clients involved. -
Minneapolis

The Family Law Intern assists Tubman’s legal department with projects such as drafting client correspondence and court documents, screening prospective legal clients, and administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and research. -
Minneapolis - Remote opportunity

As part of Tubman's Development and Communications team, the Grant Writing Intern will help research grant opportunities, assist in writing proposals and reports, while gaining valuable skills in grant writing in a non-profit organization.
Time commitment for this position is a minimum of 6 months. -
Maplewood Mall

The NorthStar Youth Outreach Center at Maplewood Mall connects youth and young adults ages 10-24 of all genders, and their children, to a safe place to access basic needs, receive advocacy and resource referrals. Volunteers at the Outreach Center also engage the community about Tubman and the Outreach Center services.Evening and Saturday shift options now available!

Volunteer Receptionists serve as the first point of contact to Tubman, providing effective customer service to individuals seeking services or other connections to Tubman. The position includes responding to people in-person, by phone, and via email.This position is for Friday availability, only.

Tubman Resource Advocates implement person-centered and culturally grounded practices to people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds through safety planning, crisis intervention, emotional support, information and connection to Tubman services, and referrals to community organizations. Resource Advocates provide these services by phone, e-mail, and in-person to individuals seeking support and services at Tubman and in the community. Work is on-site at Tubman Chrysalis in south Minneapolis. -

Assist weekend shelter staff with portioning and delivering meals to residents at our Maplewood shelter. Perfect for people working full-time during the week! -

The Shelter Operations Volunteer works as part of the Shelter Team, assisting with a variety of tasks that keep the shelter organized and running smoothly, providing a positive environment for individuals and families living at Tubman’s shelter for victims/survivors of domestic violence. -

Shelter Youth and Family Worker Interns support children who are living at Tubman’s shelter in Maplewood for families that have experienced relationship violence. Provide individualized, trauma-informed, strength-based care and advocacy through relationship building, on-site activities, field trips, and respite childcare. -

Volunteer will be responsible for transporting residents safely and promptly from Tubman East in Maplewood to appointments and errands. Must be at least 21 years old. -

Youth & Family Worker Interns in the Safe Journeys Housing program work alongside staff at Tubman East in Maplewood to serve youth and young adults of all genders between the ages of 16-24 (as well as their children) who have experienced various forms of violence, exploitation, or homelessness.
